SEAL History

Those words from the U.S. Navy SEAL ethos speak to the heritage that today’s SEALs share with the special warfare forces that came before them and the history they will pass along to those who come after them.

The Naval Special Warfare community—U.S. Navy SEALs, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC), and support personnel—can trace their lineage to a unique family of legacy units established during World War II. Scouts and Raiders, Naval Combat Demolition Units, Office of Strategic Services Maritime Unit and Underwater Demolition Teams that no longer exist, but present-day Naval Special Warfare operators carry on the pioneering skills and bravery of their members.
