“I just wanted to send a quick thank you on behalf of my son for the very generous scholarship award. He’s looking forward to Cal Poly SLO, and with his older brother attending Northeastern University, every bit helps. I’m a big fan of all the support NSF has and continues to provide active, retired, and family members.” — SEAL Retiree
Messages like this show why the Navy SEAL Foundation’s (NSF) scholarship program exists. We recently concluded Cycle One by awarding 452 scholarships totaling more than $1.4 million to SEAL and SWCC service members, veterans, and their eligible dependents. These awards are helping people pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees, vocational training, and professional development that will shape their futures.
This cycle saw an increase in application volume among veteran and retiree dependents, which suggests the word is getting out and the need is real. As one SEAL retiree spouse put it, “In the current climate of uncertainty around educational funding, I truly appreciate the NSF support as I work toward my goals.”
Being able to provide this kind of assistance is one of the most meaningful things the NSF does. Every award represents someone in our community taking a step forward, whether that’s a service member preparing for life after the military, a spouse building a career, or a child of a SEAL or SWCC heading off to college. We’re proud to play a part in that.
The scholarship program is part of our Education Pillar, which removes financial barriers and creates pathways to academic and career success for members of Naval Special Warfare, both past and present. In addition to scholarships, the NSF funds academic grants, transition assistance, and certificates and licenses across industries such as business, technology, healthcare, aviation, and the skilled trades. Last year, our educational support totaled over $2.8 million.
Our scholarship program operates on a twice-yearly cycle. For more information on eligibility and upcoming application windows, click here.
